In our latest project at Old Dragon Ink in Dinkelsbühl, we created an especially expressive tiger head with bright blue eyes and an open mouth on a forearm—a powerful statement for anyone who identifies with inner strength, wildness, and determination.
Symbolism: More than just a predator
In many cultures, the tiger stands for courage, independence, protection, and respect. In tattoo art, it’s seen as a powerful spirit animal—wild, alert, and untamable. The blue eyes give the design a mystical, almost hypnotic depth. They symbolize clarity, vision, and intuition. The open mouth, on the other hand, represents defensiveness, fighting spirit, and unbroken energy.

Technical execution: Precision meets emotion
For this tattoo, we used a combination of fine needlework, realistic shading, and rich colors. The intense blue iris was built up with multiple layers of color and highlights to create a radiant contrast against the natural fur texture. The open mouth shows teeth, tongue, and an impressive interplay of light and shadow—a technical challenge we mastered with great attention to detail.
What mattered most to us was the realistic depiction of the tiger’s skin—every hair, every crease, and every texture needed to feel alive. The result is a lifelike tiger head that looks both wild and refined.
