1. The Butterfly: Metamorphosis and Pure Freedom
Hardly any motif is as transformative as the butterfly. It universally stands for metamorphosis, a new beginning, and spiritual rebirth. Those who have overcome a very difficult phase in life or an illness often choose this motif to symbolize the path from darkness into the light. In many cultures, butterflies are also considered to be the souls of the departed, which is why they are excellent as subtle memorial tattoos, whether crafted in a delicate fine-line style or a dark blackwork style.
