Sometimes we change—and with us, the way we look at old decisions. That was the case with this project at Old Dragon Ink in Dinkelsbühl: a client wanted to get rid of her old tribal tattoo—a leftover from her younger years that no longer suited her.
The solution: a detailed Black & Grey cover-up with an elegant rose. And the result wasn’t just visually convincing—it also had an emotional impact: the client was so thrilled that she immediately had two more youthful mistakes covered up.
From tribal to floral artwork
The original design was a classic tribal, packed in deep and visually dominant. Tattoos like these are often difficult to cover up—but with the right concept, even an old symbol can become a new work of art.
The choice was a realistic rose, done in fine Black & Grey technique. The soft shading, the three-dimensional look, and the targeted density in certain areas make the old tribal disappear completely without the skin looking overloaded.
The natural shape of the leaves was perfectly adapted to break up the lines of the old tattoo and integrate them harmoniously into the new design.
Why cover-ups can feel so freeing
Tattoos are more than just ink on skin—they’re often memories, decisions, chapters of our lives. And sometimes we want to say goodbye to those chapters without immediately turning to laser removal.
A professional cover-up tattoo is a creative, self-determined way to move on from old designs—without denying who you are. At best, it creates not only a beautiful new image, but a real sense of a fresh start.
Just like here: the client left the studio not only with a new tattoo, but with a genuine smile. And she came back—for two more cover-ups that allowed her to reshape her past for good.
