A forearm tattoo is a statement. While it can be covered at work with a long-sleeved shirt or sweater if necessary, as soon as the sleeves are rolled up, you show the world who you are.

However, this high visibility also means the design has to be spot on! There’s no room for half-measures or poor craftsmanship here. A faded or poorly executed tattoo on the forearm stands out immediately. That’s why choosing the right artist for this prominent spot is crucial.

The anatomy: Two sides of the same coin

The forearm offers two completely different surfaces, each with its own advantages for certain tattoo styles.

1. The inner forearm

The inside of the forearm is relatively flat and has little hair. It is the absolute premium canvas for extremely fine and detailed work.

Since our forearms are almost always uncovered in spring and summer, they get the full blast of UV radiation. Over time, UV rays act like a laser and break down the color pigments under the skin. If you want your black and grey realism or your fineline tattoo to still look razor-sharp and high-contrast in ten years, sunscreen (SPF 50) will become your new best friend—every day!
