From Dinkelsbühl to the World: Dimi’s Tattoo Adventure in the Far East
Tattooing is an art form that knows no borders. Our artist Dimi is proving this once again with his current project, which takes him far from the familiar atmosphere of the Old Dragon Ink studio in Dinkelsbühl. As part of an exclusive collaboration between TUI Cruises (Mein Schiff) and Wildcat, Dimi is trading solid ground for the gentle waves of the world’s oceans. His journey as an “Artist on Board” is more than just a job; it’s a cultural voyage of discovery that has now reached its current peak in the Far East.
A Route Full of Contrasts: From Europe to Asia
Before dropping anchor in the ports of Southeast Asia, Dimi’s path had already taken him through some of Europe’s most beautiful regions. From the sun-drenched coasts of Gran Canaria and Spain, through the picturesque landscapes of Portugal and France, to the Mediterranean gem of Palma de Mallorca – Dimi left lasting works of art on guests’ skin everywhere. However, the current leg of the journey is characterized by a very special kind of magic.
The journey through Asia began in the futuristic city-state of Singapore, a place where tradition meets science fiction. From there, the Mein Schiff fleet set course for the mystical coasts of Vietnam. Stops like Phu My, the gateway to bustling Ho Chi Minh City, the breathtaking Ha Long Bay with its limestone cliffs, and the coastal paradise of Nha Trang provided a backdrop that couldn’t be more inspiring. The grand finale was the global metropolis of Hong Kong, where the impressive skyline became the stage for Dimi’s craft.

Looking at the photos in this blog post, it quickly becomes clear: the studio on board the Mein Schiff fleet is a technical masterpiece. Despite the limited space at sea, the workspace offers the highest hygiene standards and a modern atmosphere that is in no way inferior to our studio in Dinkelsbühl. The photos show Dimi in full concentration – surrounded by state-of-the-art equipment, while the deep blue sea or the skyline of Asian metropolises passes by the porthole.
The contrast between the calm in the studio and the dynamics of the journey is particularly fascinating. While Dimi applies delicate lines and shading with a steady hand and maximum precision, the world outside is changing. This special energy is transferred directly to the tattoos.
